James Gunn News
James Gunn discusses his re-hire by Marvel after being fired from the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise in 2018.
According to the Independent, Gunn was sacked from the MCU following his controversial humorous tweets about rape and pedophilia, as well as at the time US President Donald Trump.
A year later, Disney hired Gunn to helm Guardians of the Galaxy 3 as well as a Christmas special for Disney+.
Gunn stated to The Hollywood Reporter that he was rehired at the behest of Disney movie chairman Alan Horn, who had fired Gunn over his tweets, calling them “indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values.”
Gunn stated that he heard Horn lament his decision, saying, “It’s a hundred percent because Alan Horn felt sick.” He did it because it seemed like the right thing to do.’
Meanwhile, Marvel CEO Kevin Feige commented on the entire episode, revealing that no one was interviewed to replace Gunn while he was away.
“We didn’t even put a preliminary list together just because we couldn’t do it. We couldn’t stomach it,” added Feige.
Meanwhile, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is set to hit theaters on May 3.
