Paolo Zanetti became the first coach to be fired in Serie A this season, his stint at Empoli ending on Tuesday after a 7-0 hammering by Roma.
“Empoli announce that they have removed Paolo Zanetti and his two assistants, Nicola Beati and Fabio Trentin, from their first-team coaching duties,” the Tuscan club announced in a statement.
Aurelio Andreazzoli, who had previously managed Empoli, was later selected as Zanetti’s replacement, with the club stating that the 69-year-old “has committed himself until the end of the season, with an option for a further season.”
Zanetti, 40, joined Empoli in June 2022 and insured the club’s survival in the top division, finishing 14th last season.
Empoli, however, have lost their first four games of the season, conceding 12 goals without scoring a single one.
