Wizkid Biography

Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun, is a Nigerian singer and songwriter. He was born on July 16, 1990, in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. Wizkid started singing at the age of 11 in his local church choir and later formed a music group called Glorious Five with some of his friends.

In 2009, He signed a record deal with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) and released his debut album, “Superstar,” in 2011. The album featured hit singles like “Holla at Your Boy,” “Love My Baby,” and “Pakurumo,” which helped establish Wizkid as a household name in the Nigerian music industry.

His music style is a fusion of Afrobeat, hip-hop, and R&B, and his lyrics are mostly in English, Yoruba, and Pidgin. He has worked with several international artists, including Drake, Beyonce, and Chris Brown, and has won numerous awards, including BET Awards, MOBO Awards, and MTV Africa Music Awards.

In 2016, he signed a multi-album deal with RCA Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music. His third studio album, “Sounds From the Other Side,” was released in 2017 and featured collaborations with several international artists.

Wizkid is not only a successful musician but also a philanthropist. He established the Wizkid Foundation to support underprivileged children in Nigeria and has also donated to various causes, including the fight against COVID-19 in Africa.
