Biography of Joran van der Sloot

Natalee Holloway

Joran van der Sloot was born on August 6, 1987, in Arnhem, Netherlands. He is a Dutch citizen who gained international notoriety for his involvement in the disappearance and presumed murder of American teenager Natalee Holloway in 2005.

Van der Sloot grew up in Arnhem with his parents, Paulus and Anita, and his two brothers. His father was a lawyer and his mother was a teacher. Van der Sloot was described as a difficult child and had trouble in school, frequently getting into fights and disobeying his teachers.

In 2005, Van der Sloot was a student at the University of Aruba when he met Natalee Holloway, an American teenager on vacation with her classmates. On May 30, 2005, Holloway disappeared and was last seen with Van der Sloot and two other men.

Despite extensive searches and investigations, Holloway’s body was never found, and Van der Sloot was never charged with her murder. However, he was arrested twice in connection with the case, once in Aruba and once in Peru, but was released both times due to lack of evidence.

In 2010, Van der Sloot was arrested again, this time in Peru, for the murder of Stephany Flores Ramirez, a Peruvian woman he met in a casino. He admitted to killing her after she discovered information on his involvement in the Holloway case on his laptop. Van der Sloot was sentenced to 28 years in prison for her murder.

Van der Sloot’s reputation was further damaged when he was caught on tape confessing to the murder of Holloway in 2010, but later recanted his confession. He is currently serving his sentence in the Challapalca prison in southern Peru.

Van der Sloot’s case has received widespread media attention and has been the subject of numerous documentaries and books.
