Biography of Alexandra Grant

Alexandra Grant is an American artist known for her conceptual art, mixed media paintings, and sculpture. She was born on April 4, 1973, in Fairview Park, Ohio, and grew up in Mexico City and San Francisco.

Grant studied history and studio art at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania and later earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.

Grant’s art often deals with language, communication, and the relationship between text and image. She frequently collaborates with writers, including her longtime collaborator and friend, the actor Keanu Reeves. Together, they have published two books, “Ode to Happiness” and “Shadows,” both of which feature Reeves’ poetry and Grant’s artwork.

In addition to her collaborations with Reeves, Grant has also worked with other writers, including Michael Joyce, Hélène Cixous, and Antena (Jen Hofer and John Pluecker). She has exhibited her work in galleries and museums around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; LACMA; the Hammer Museum; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Denver.

Grant is also a philanthropist and activist. She co-founded the grantLOVE project in 2008, which raises funds for arts-based non-profit organizations. She has also been involved in various social justice causes, including Black Lives Matter and the Women’s March.

In 2020, Grant received widespread media attention for her relationship with Keanu Reeves, whom she has been dating since 2019. They made their public debut as a couple at the LACMA Art + Film Gala in November 2019.

Overall, Alexandra Grant is an accomplished artist, writer, and philanthropist who continues to push the boundaries of contemporary art and explore the intersections between text, image, and communication.
