AC Milan vs Newcastle United
AC Milan were held to a goalless draw at San Siro by a tenacious Newcastle United side making their long-awaited return to the UEFA Champions League after a 20-year absence.
Despite dominating the game, Milan failed to bring it to a close with multiple wasted opportunities that may have resulted in a victory.
Rafael Leao, a Portuguese winger who had been in good form recently, was unable to convert his chances, including a backheel attempt that went astray.
Stefano Pioli, Milan’s manager, expressed his displeasure, saying, “We’re disappointed because when you play like this, you have to win.” Our goal is to advance from this group, and we wanted to get off to a good start. We didn’t take any risks.”
Milan dominated the first half, with Tommaso Pobega and Leao troubling Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope with long-range shots. A header was also saved for Samuel Chukwueze. The biggest chance of the half, however, fell to Leao, who missed a backheel attempt.
Newcastle, on the other hand, struggled to produce chances, with Sean Longstaff forcing a stop from substitute Milan goalkeeper Marco Sportiello in the 95th minute.
Milan were given a blow when Ruben Loftus-Cheek and goalie Mike Maignan were injured. Newcastle firmly defended, thwarting Milan’s attempts to break the deadlock.

While the draw may have left both teams disappointed, they face a difficult Group F with Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund as opponents.
Milan will play Dortmund in Germany, while Newcastle will entertain PSG at St James’ Park.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe noted the significance of the draw, adding, “It was emotional.” We accept this draw and point, which we fought for and are pleased with.”
Newcastle will take solace in earning a point against one of Italy’s footballing behemoths in their long-awaited return to the Champions League.
